A wall clock is a staple in most households as it is a simple & effective way to show the time. When placed in the living room, it becomes even easier for all to know the current time. It is such a staple that it appears in almost all movies as a stabel trope to indicate that the scene is a house in which the location that has the clock is (likely) the living room. The analogue ticking of the hands also is a reminder of a not too distant past where there are no digital clocks & all that was in a clock to indicate time is the precise turning of the gears.
